When it comes to a rich combination of history, wonderful food, and beautiful weather, it is tough to beat a visit to the island of Cyprus. Located in the eastern Mediterranean Sea, Cyprus offers a vacation experience that is sure to appeal to everyone. First settled in the second millennium BC, the island’s tradition has had ample time to flourish.

Choirokoitia is one of these earliest settlements. Not only is it acknowledged as possibly the first colony on Cyprus, but it is known as one of the first communities in the world. Choirokoitia has received World Heritage Site designation by UNESCO, which affirms its place in human history. Upon discovery, Choirokoitia was already incredibly preserved, but measures have been taken to fully restore it to its original grandeur. Outstanding examples of Byzantine art can be seen in any of Cyprus’s ten painted churches that have also been placed on the World Heritage List by UNESCO. Vivid frescoes adorn the walls of these churches, embodying the artful spirit of the settlers. Don’t forget to head underground into the Tombs of the Kings that have been carved into the rock of the Cypriot landscape.

Any experienced vacationer will tell you that sampling indigenous cuisine is a must on a trip. Cyprus is uniquely situated near Turkey and comprised of much Greek heritage, making for a singular fare unlike any other. Of course, wine and olive oil are large constituents of many recipes. Even the food provides a snapshot of Cyprus’s history because so many recipes have been handed down between generations. Known for its wine since its inception, Cyprus provides numerous locally distilled wines to enhance your dining experience. One of the world’s first wines to be identified is Commandria, a rather sweet wine. The highly distilled Zivania is almost purely alcohol, providing more punch if you are so inclined.

Being a Mediterranean island, Cyprus is rife with sunny, sandy beaches perfect for lying out in the sun or diving into the waves. Cyprus’s climate places it above most other places on earth for swimming and sunbathing. There’s more to the beaches than swimming. You can enjoy windsurfing and sailing year round on Cyprus. Cape Town, South Africa lies on the shoreline of Table Bay not far from the southern tip of Africa. It was founded by the Dutch East India Company to be a port of replenishment for Dutch sailing vessels en route to East Africa, India, and China/Indonesia. Cape Town is the geographical and jurisdictive capital and home base for the National Parliament and various other governmental agencies. It is the second most populous city in South Africa and the most extensive in the area. Cape Town is proud of its landmarks, which include Table Mountain and Cape point, not to mention the harbor known as Point of Cape Town.

All flights to Cape Town land at Cape Town International Airport situated approximately 20 minutes from the Cape Town City Centre. However, some flights land in Johannesburg first. Public transportation between the airport and the city is not available. Travelers are advised to reserve transportation ahead of time through shuttle services such as Magic Bus, City Hopper or Centurion. Taking a private taxi is another option.

The city of Cape Town in South Africa has many things for tourists and visitors to check out. It has become one of the most popular places for tourists to see in Africa. Here are some of the things Cape Town has to offer.

Get to the Vodacom Festival if you love comedy. It’s being held in Cape Town at the Baxter Theater June 7th to June 11th. Here you’ll enjoy comics from the area and from the global community and you’re sure to laugh. In fact, it’s been called the Cape Town Winter Tonic and usually sells out.

Railroad aficionados will adore the Southern Line Train Route connecting Cape Town to Simon’s Town. Using the handy “hop-on-hop-off” pass, passengers can tour the grandeur of the coastline with stopovers en route at the South African Astronomical Laboratory and the Groote Schuur Hospital, the site of the first heart transplant operation. Enjoy an interlude at Simon’s Town and explore Boulder’s Beach and visit one of the world’s penguin breeding sanctuaries. Or maybe just have a golf game before lunch. The route between Cape Town and Simon’s Town is replete with amazing panoramas and if you come at the right time, you may be gifted with a sighting of the Southern Right whales.

If you love golf, then you will be in your element in Cape Town, which has some of the most demanding courses to be found anywhere. Get started with a nine-hole game at the Metropolitan Golf Course on the outskirts of City Centre. Its establishment dates back to 1895 so it will see remodeling quite soon. If you prefer full eighteen holes, then you will enjoy Westlake’s full course laid out under the fragrant, towering pines and sitting at the foot of lovely Silvermine Mountain. Clovelly Golf Club and Steenberg are two absolutely spectacular world-class golfing venues offering both formidable design and gorgeous environs.

Cape Town offers many spas where you can relax after a day of touring. Check out Sanctuary Spa at the Twelve Apostles Hotel.
