It is widely acknowledged that the package holiday was born in Benidorm. Benidorm hotels offer an affordable, fun-packed holiday with all the trimmings. Benidorm is renowned for its golden beaches, lively bars and hotels, but prior to the 1960′s it was a small fishing village. With 4 theme parks nearby, the town is now very popular with families.

If you’re looking to see more of Benidorm and the surrounding area, then there are many unique Spanish towns nearby, which are worth exploring. The ancient castle in Guadalest, which was built by the Moors in 1200 AD is a great place to visit. The walls of the castle have been worn away over the years by the passage of pack horses and now look and feel very smooth. The village has a craft centre and several bars, which have been incorporated into the surrounding rock. From the many hotels in Benidorm, tourists queue up every morning to catch the ferry to explore the modern shops, bars and beaches in Calpe. Just 30 minutes away from Benidorm is the town of Denia. {The Old Town leads down to a harbour and fish market}. It is possible to try out various water sports here, or you can catch a ferry to nearby Ibiza.

Travel to Alicante from Denia, through the 17 tunnels on the narrow gauge railway. In a pretty bay, below some imposing mountains is Moraira, which offers some of the best beaches around. Years ago, this was a fishing village and although fishing is still carried out here today, its main industry is tourism, hence the abundance of bars, shops and good restaurants. If you have time, be sure to visit the old Moorish fort here.

The theme parks of Terra Mitica and Terra Natura are great for families on a budget who are staying in cheap hotels in Benidorm. The Ancient World is the theme of Terra Mitica and the park has 5 zones, representing the ancient civilisations of Rome, Greece, Iberia, Egypt and The Islands. The park has a great mix of large roller coasters and live entertainment. The sister park of Terra Natura is situated on the northern hillsides, outside of Benidorm. It is a combination of a theme park and a zoo. Aqua Natura is also there, which is a water park, consisting of water slides and scary rides. There is a host of entertainment here, with muscial concerts, circus and puppet shows and a theatre.
