The great time of year has once again hit us with the sun out and birds singing, people want to look at getting away. The media have always said that vacations will be suffering this year without many people travelling. But is this all the truth?

Despite all the negative economic talk, more and more people are booking and going on holidays. Despite the power of the currency, Europe is still the main destination for holidaymakers, with just over 40% of those surveyed saying they will be going somewhere on the continent this year. It is also said that tourists will be spending exactly the same amount of cash that was spent in previous times.

Vacations are slightly down and this is most likely due to all of the media talk behind it all, I can 100% say that if it was not so hyped up in the media then folk would not have a clue that we were in any type of recession. As we already know UK holiday bookings are up a drastic amount so could this possibly be the reason as to why the media have publicised the credit crunch so much? Is it possibly to scare people into staying and holidaying in the UK so that they pump money back into the economy, instead of spending it overseas.

What ever the reason may be people are ignoring all the advice and still travelling abroad, to destinations such as Turkey and Egypt. But if you take a look at the situation you will realise that holidaying abroad will probably end up working out to be a lot cheaper then the UK.

The credit crunch has hit peoples wallets, and this has led to people being more careful when booking a holiday. Around two years ago people would have simply snapped up their holidays in an instant, but in this day and age they are being a lot more careful.

Summer time is close by and beach resorts throughout the world are usually the favourite, but what has happened is that people are instead looking for locations that are affordable and cheap, somewhere where their money can go a lot further. The trends that have been seen recently are as follows.

1) A vast amount of people are skipping the summer this year and pre booking for next year to keep costs down.
2) They are visiting countries that still have a low currency level where they can get the most out of their money.
3) A vast amount of people are seeking last minute deals and cancellations.
4) All inclusive packages have seen a huge increase and that is because people want to pay for their holiday and have all of their essentials such as food and drink paid for while they are away. This allows people to bring a lot less spending money with themselves.

As you can see there are various methods being used by folk to save themselves that little bit of extra money. We all realise that holidays can be very costly, especially if there is a lot of people in the group, but it is something that must be taken to help people relax. So what are you waiting for, book your turkey, Spanish or Barbados holidays now and relax with great sun, sea and sand.

The holiday market has taken a battering from the unstable economy. XL was the company that first hit the headlines as a victim of the credit crunch and since then the papers have been littered with stories of other sufferers in the market. The first good news in a while however has been announced by TUI, Britain’s largest tour operator, who say that their last months sales show strong improvements.  Peter Long, chief executive of TUI put this down a regaining of people’s trust in the economy slightly and feeling better about spending their disposable income after the hyped mass hysteria about the credit crunch settled down. “Customers who delayed purchasing holidays in the early booking season have started to return to the market” the company said.

Another element that probably has had an influence is low interest rates. Mortgage costs are lower than they have been in ages, food prices are back down to sensible levels and utility bills are pretty good as well. They means basically that outgoings are reduced and people are finding they have a little more money to spend on time out and enjoying themselves.  The most popular destinations are the hotter countries, namely the Mediterranean and Caribbean destinations where people can just chill out and enjoy a bit of sun. Also very popular at the moment are all inclusive holidays.

Even though purchases are technically 7% less than this time last year, as a whole this figure is better than it has been all year.  They have sold 93% of their winter holidays because despite the worst performing market currently being the Nordic region, holidays to Canada have been doing very well

TUI has said that this pick up represents a general improving trend in holiday sales. By the end of this holiday season we predict that purchasing levels will rise up to their previous levels the market regains strength.
