Yosemite Valley is a broad mountain valley located along the western slope of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, USA. This beautiful valley is the heart of Yosemite National Park. The Yosemite Valley lays claim to many of the park’s most popular attractions, so it is the destination of most visitors every year.

Each spring, when the snows begin to melt high up in the Sierras, the water forms into rivers which cascade down the mountain side and pour over many of the famous cliffs and ledges that Yosemite park is known for. As a result, Yosemite is also home to many of the most stunning waterfalls on earth.

Perhaps the most famous of these falls shares it’s name with the park itself. Yosemite Falls is a crowd favorite, and is actually made up of three separate falls. The Merced Lake flows above the valley and to the end of its canyon (known as Little Yosemite Valley,) where the “Giant Staircase” begins.

Hikers and backpackers love Yosemite Park. Many scenic nature trails lead out of Yosemite Valley. One popular trail is the John Muir Trail which covers 211 miles and ends near the summit of Mount Whitney. The Mist Trail provides a view of Nevada Fall and Vernal Falls. The Yosemite Falls Trail leads to the top of Yosemite Falls.

The Yosemite Valley is an ecosystem with much diversity and many unique attributes. The valley is a mix of thick pine forests and open grassy meadows surrounded by stately granite domes and spires and densely forested mountslopes.

Granite monoliths are a main distinguishing features of the park. The main structures can be seen from the valley floor including Half Dome and El Capitan. These cliffs tower above the valley floor. Cloud’s Rest stands at 9,926 feet, which is the highest point in the valley.

There are three developed areas in the valley where most of the hotels, restaurants, and shops are. Yosemite Village, Curry Village, and Yosemite Lodge have many quality accommodations and are on the bus route.

The valley also houses the Yosemite Museum and Indian Cultural Exhibit. The Ansel Adams Gallery is also in Yosemite Valley, where prints and cards by the famous photographer are sold.

The Yosemite Valley is the most popular destination at Yosemite National Park. One visit, and I’m sure you’ll understand why.

Planning Your Summer Vacation

When you think of holiday travel, what comes to your mind first? When many people plan holiday travel, they think of visiting their families at Thanksgiving, Christmas, or Easter. While these may the best known holidays, there are others as well. The fourth of July and Labor Day weekend are the most popular summer vacation periods.

If you are interested in vacationing on or around Labor Day weekend or the Forth of July weekend, there are a number of important factors that you should first consider.  Perhaps, the most important factor is number of other travelers on the road.  As previously mentioned, a large number of individuals and families make the decision to travel on a summer holiday weekend.  If you are interested in vacationing at a popular destination, you may want to take this into consideration.

In most of the world, summer is associated with sun, sand, and beaches.  The majority of families that travel on Labor Day weekend or the Fourth of July weekend are heading to the beach.  There are a number of popular beaches that can be found in the United States and Europe. Some popular beaches in the U.S, include Daytona Beach,Virginia Beach, the Jersey Shore,Cape Cod,Muscle Beach, Pismo Beach.  St. Tropez, Nice,Costa Smeralda, and Marbella are popular beach destinations in Europe.

When selecting a summer holiday vacation destination, it is important to keep what you need and want out of your vacation in mind.  If you are looking for a romantic, but private getaway, you may want to avoid the above mentioned beaches. If you can handle crowds and a lack of privacy, then you can find a great vacation anywhere in the world.

Beaches can easily be considered the most popular summer vacation destinations, but they are not your only options when vacationing during a summer holiday. Many people think of picnics and barbecues as synonymous with Labor Day and the Fourth of July. That’s why public parks and campgrounds are popular summer vacation destinations. If you’re interested in outdoor adventure activities, then you might want to consider camping.

Outdoor camping is enjoyed by many.  Its allure is privacy. Most campgrounds are in largely landscaped areas.  Trees and large bushes often create private retreats.  In addition to being found in wooded areas, public campgrounds can also be found along secluded beaches and in the mountains. There are usually facilities in state and national park campgrounds for showering, cleaning clothes, electric outlets and toilet clean outs.  These facilities often include onsite laundromats, general stores, and game rooms.

Outdoor camping is most often perceived as sleeping outdoors in a tent.  Tents are often the most used piece of camping equipment, but RVs are gaining popularity. If you do not own an RV, you can easily rent one from a number of locations.  There are many individuals and families who enjoy taking a road trip throughout the United States or Europe.

Beaches and campgrounds are popular vacation destinations for summer holiday travelers. Summertime opens up many other possible vacation venues besides the beach or camping. And for more fun, you can visit an amusement park, zoo, or a museum.  When it comes to summer holiday travel, just about anything is possible.
