Puerto Rico is 100 miles long and 35 miles wide, and is located in the center of the Antilles.   Both Hispanic and Angle culture influence Puerto Rican tradition.  Puerto Rico is not new to the U.S., having been a territory since 1898.

The Spanish came to Puerto Rico in 1493, and their great influence is still felt throughout the island.  The Spanish influence on the culture and architecture are hard to miss; just have a look at the churches, lighthouses, and roadways.    All bear the stamp of Spanish influence.   When they arrived on the island, the Spanish brought with them slaves; they ultimately had a great influence on the language, music, and cuisine.

Use your credit card and ATM card in Puerto Rico, where it’s as easy as shopping at home in the U.S.   You can easily bring your purchases back to the U.S. mainland, since there are no customs or duties.

When you’re traveling throughout Puerto Rico, you’ll find familiar transportation options.  Every major city has plenty of taxis, rental cars, buses, and “publicos” to help you get around.  San Juan has wonderful free Trolley Tours, and you can also choose to rent a bicycle.  If that isn’t enough for you, you can take chartered planes around the island.   Ferries are there to take you to Culebra or Vieques.

There are many wonderful reasons to travel to Puerto Rico.   The beautiful scenery and flawless beaches beckon people from everywhere.
