So the clocks have gone back and the nights are closing in. It’s starting to get cold and each morning I’m increasingly made aware of the water present in my breath. The car is getting closer to frosting at the start of each day and it’s starting to upset my karma. I suppose it’s a natural response to be shaken somewhat by the swift change in the amount of light we’re subjected to, the change happens so rapidly that you’re often taken by surprise.

But the change in seasons can signify the start of something more special – it’s the start of overcoats, scarves, rosy cheeks and cosy cappuccinos. It’s that time of the year where you can escape from the cold close weather and hide away in cosy pubs with open fires and bearded men. Get a pint from the bartender, sit down with your friends and enjoy the loins of a public house. There are some great memories to be had in the British winter, but you’ll probably find that most of them come from the pub.

The season between October and Christmas is usually a time marked with many parties. Manchester’s Warehouse Project runs every weekend from October through to New Years Day. It’s a who’s who of the DJing world in which revellers from all over the country descend on Manchester to party themselves through till morning light right underneath Manchester’s Picadilly train station. If think you can make it to one of the events, make sure you attend. You’ll get a real taster of what Manchester’s night life is really like, rather than the mainstream decadence of Deansgate Locks, so saturated in popular culture that a night out there is the clubbing equivalent of watching X-Factor.

When your done with the cosy cappuccinos, the pints in the pub and the round the clock raving, you can go home, curl up on your sofa and close your velux blinds. The light will shine in the morning.
